The time is now, as the blooming season gets under way.
The first of the season’s flowering flowers has been spotted on a tree in a garden in New South Wales, and it is the first time the new crop has been seen in Australia.
The plant is a member of the family of edible seaweeds called aurochs, which is native to the Pacific Ocean.
In the last 30 years, the flowering plant has become a favourite of gardeners and gardeners alike, with many people growing and selling them as an edible alternative to fish, crabs and other shellfish.
“It’s one of those plants that people have loved growing for a long time,” said Dr Kate Fournier, who works at the National Botanic Gardens in Adelaide.
“We get a lot of calls from people wanting to grow them, so we’ve done some really fun projects with them.”
Fournier said the plant was also used as an alternative to sugar cane, which grows on a vast expanse of Queensland’s coast.
“They’ve been grown in Tasmania for a while and the same is true of Queensland, and they’re also grown in New Zealand and South Africa, but for a very long time they were used as a fruit source,” she said.
“But in Queensland, they’re quite hardy, and the best ones grow on really old trees and they’ll do really well in warm climate conditions.”
Furnier said that because of the fact that seaweed is such a hardy food, it was best to start with a smaller area and gradually work your way up.
“A lot of seaweed grows well in a relatively small area, so you could plant it as a tree, a bush, or just a garden bench,” she explained.
“You could put some in your garden, you could put it in your garage, it could even be in your shed, so it could be a really nice addition to your garden.”
She said seaweed could also be used as filler for your garden bed.
“I’ve had people come in and say, ‘I have some really hardy seaweed in my garden, and I’d like to plant some of it, and if you grow it right, I’ll be really happy, but it won’t grow’,” she said
