Botanical Gardens in the Garden of Eatin are set to be unveiled by the city’s new mayor and will be one of the largest botanical gardens in the world.
The garden will be located at the corner of Main and Broadway, and will feature approximately 8,500 plants and will open for the season on July 24.
The plantings are part of a citywide effort to make our neighborhoods more sustainable, with the goal of creating an eco-friendly, sustainable community.
“The Garden of eatIn is part of the plan to be one the largest Botanical Garden in the country and I am excited to be the Mayor of Brooklyn,” said Council Member Mark Levine, who will be responsible for overseeing the project.
“This is an opportunity for Brooklyn to become a leader in green space and the Garden is a great opportunity for the City to showcase our growing collection of native and seasonal plants,” Levine said.
The garden will also be a place for visitors to learn about the plants and learn about food and gardening.
The city’s first botanical Gardens, built in 2009, will be named in honor of the late Elizabeth and John Smith, who died in 2012.
The gardens will feature around 200 species of native plants, including more than 400 native plants from the Garden’s first Gardens.
“Our gardens are not just a tourist attraction,” said Brooklyn Mayor Wynton James.
“Our gardens will provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to learn and enjoy the natural world through natural beauty.
These gardens will bring our City a rich, unique, and inspiring experience that will be a welcome addition to our neighborhoods.”
